Marion, NC- McDowell Early College has begun its annual recruitment process for new students, in which approximately 50 individuals are selected each year. Early College staff has visited or will be visiting each Middle School and the AEC to deliver information to rising 9th grade students. During the presentation, students are familiarized with the Early College program and invited to attend “Prospective Student Night,” which is an informational meeting at MTCC the following week. The meeting allows potential applicants and parents to receive additional information from McDowell Technical Community College Administrators, Early College Staff, Current Students and Parents, as well as the opportunity, to ask questions.
This year’s “Prospective Student Night” is to be held Tuesday February 2, 2016 in the McDowell Technical Community College Auditorium at 6:30 pm. Rising 9th grade students, who currently attend McDowell County Public Schools, and their parents are invited to attend the meeting and to apply. Applications are handed out at the conclusion of the meeting and candidates are given a deadline of about a month to make a decision and return the application. Be advised that no late applications will be accepted. Once applications are returned, data such as grades, attendance and discipline are carefully examined and students typically receive a letter of notification by mid April.
