Principal's Message

Welcome to McDowell Early College.
Welcome to the McDowell Early College Website! We hope the website will provide you with the information you need about our school. It is our desire for our website to be a place where current students/parents can find pertinent information about what is "Happening" at MEC and prospective students/parents can find out information about the recruitment process.

This is the beginning of my 27th year as an educator. I have learned much along the way. Perhaps most important is that everyone needs to feel connected to something or someone to be an effective member of any group. Our school culture at MEC embraces the idea that individuals who are engaged and have relationships with others will be successful. Students are encouraged to lead, to find their passion and are encouraged to connect not only with our school community but also the greater community of McDowell County. Our students average more than 8000 community service hours per year.

MEC has a great staff that is committed to encouraging every student to reach their full potential. The maturity demonstrated by our student body and their acceptance of each other permeates the McDowell Technical Community College Campus daily. We recognize at MEC that in our school community we must respect each other, seek understanding of differences and learn to live together. My mission as a school leader is to have high expectations for all students and staff, have a supportive and responsive attitude with students and staff, and encourage leadership throughout our school.
